3 Ways To Get Your Former Customers To Book Your New Live Escape Experiences

Hey friends, and welcome to the latest in our special series of escape room marketing blogs centred around the ongoing worldwide pandemic and how the escape room industry is adapting by offering live online and virtual escape room experiences.

Before I get started, I sincerely hope you and your loved ones are healthy.

Last week I shared 5 ways of engaging with your social media and website audiences and transform them into paying live escape room customers. And today I’m going to continue the theme of sharing different marketing techniques to get as many customers as possible for your new live escape experiences.

I really want to help you to generate as much income as possible during this difficult situation and whilst your escape room doors are physically but temporarily closed. That’s why today I’m going to share 3 ways you can get your former customers to book your new live experiences.

Whilst there will be so many people who have never played any of your games before who will be perfect to market to, there is no substitute for marketing to former customers.

This is because they know you already – they’ve played one of more of your rooms historically, and they will have loved it and loved your team. So by coming along and offering them something similar but also very different, you’ll find that many former customers would love to book a live online experience right away.

So what are you waiting for? Let’s dive in…

1. Emails

The first strategy is emailing. Because you’re marketing to former customers, you will have certain details for them that you can use to your advantage, that you wouldn’t have marketing to those who are not former customers. Email addresses is by far the biggest of these.

The strategy here is simple. Using your CRM software, email distribution software (mailchimp, mailshake, etc) or simply through mail merging and outlook, send an email to all of your former customers inviting them to book one of your brand new live experiences.

Here’s a nice little template you can use and tweak as you seem fit:

Subject: [Name], Play Our Brand-New Virtual Escape Experience!

Body:

Hey [Name],

All of us at [The Best Escape Room Ever] sincerely hope this email finds you and your loved ones healthy during this trying time.

To help people escape from reality a little, we’ve just started to offer virtual escape room experiences! And as a past customer of ours, we wanted you to be amongst the very first we invite to try these out.

You may be thinking, What is a virtual escape room?

Instructions will vary depending how you choose to host virtual ERs

Virtual escape rooms are just as exciting and challenging as normal ones, but you can do them from the comfort of your own home via a PC or laptop!

Take care,

It really can be as easy as that. Remember you’ve already done the hard work in winning over these customers in the past – marketing to them, getting them to book a room, and providing them an unforgettable experience. Now you can utilise all your hard work and get these former customers to try out your new live experiences.

But it doesn’t end there…

2. Texts

Whilst having your former customers email addresses is fairly common, you may also have their contact numbers. You may have captured this as part of the online payment system, or as a tool to confirm and remind customers of their bookings.

Either way if you have some or all of your former customers contact numbers, you can use them to send text messages to them. The message will be similar to those in the emails, but more condensed and to the point – as text messages should be!

This is a great strategy to get peoples attention too. People have many email inboxes, jam packed with unread emails with more arriving every day. So email open rates can be as low as 30%. But text messages on the other hand, have a near 99% open rate.

Software is available for sending text messages en-mass at a low cost, alternatively you can do it manually.

Here’s a template you can use and alter:

3. Facebook Ads

A third strategy you can use involves Facebook Ads. Now this strategy will possibly require more cost than using emails and texts, but it can work well. In addition, due to the current pandemic less businesses are using Facebook ads to advertise. With competition low, it also minimises the costs you will face.

It’s very much worth doing, otherwise I wouldn’t have included it here! And you can do it with as little as $5/£5 a day.

And all you need is a list of all of your former email addresses. HOWEVER, there’s a catch. In order to use Facebook Ads to advertise to your former customers your email list needs to be 1250 at-least. Why? Because Facebook has a minimum of 1,000 contacts needed before they will allow ads to run. And not every email address you have will be linked to an active Facebook profile. So ensure you have 1250 if not more before starting. If you don’t, skip this strategy for the time being.

I want to keep this post short, so I won’t go into detail as to how to set up your ads. However what you need is a CSV file of your former customers email addresses uploaded into Facebook and an audience created of them. There are many guides online that can show you how to do this, alternatively feel free to email me at dan@virallybot.com and I’ll be happy to help.

With your audience ready, you want to run ads that are very similar to your emails:

Simples, and effective, because again you’re just advertising to those who already know and love you and your escape room business and brand!

4. B-B-B-BONUS

I wanted to cover a quick bonus strategy. It involves using emails, texts and facebook ads as covered, but not to direct former customers to book an experience. Instead, you invite them to play a free game on your website. Upon completing, they’ll then be invited to book a live experience with you – and because they’re so engaged from playing your mini-game, they’ll book on the spot!

This gamification marketing does well, and you can have a game installed on your website in a matter of minutes courtesy of VirallyBot AND it’s free for 30 days. For more info, click here.

That’s all for this week friends, I’ll see you again same time next week!

On a personal note I wish you all and your loved ones all the best in the coming days and weeks.
